I dont think that having lots of degrees makes you limited. When I needed to move here, I basically felt I could reach out for those looking for engineers, or those looking for business folks, because I&#39;ve got both skills. Additionally, the SDM students are not required to take all of the &quot;core&quot; Sloan courses, so I personally feel that the SDMs may not integrate as fully into the Sloan school as the LGOs. <br /><br />LGO is looking for demonstrated leadership, passion for and expertise in operations, and high academic marks. To be a strong candidate, I would focus on ensuring your application has all three areas fully covered. If there are areas that need focus, this is what I&#39;d work on strengthening now, before you apply.<br /><br />How are LGOs different from Sloan students? Well, they have a strong passion for ops, and a desire and ability to get both an MBA and a full masters of engineering degree in just 3 semesters. You can always reach out to LGO admissions on this question. As for your likelihood of admittance, I honestly can&#39;t say since I am not on the admissions team. However, if you are concerned about your GPA, making sure that the rest of your application is solid (ie, work experience, extra-curriculars, etc) should help. Sorry if this is a bit long-winded, but I want to give you as much background on myself as possible so that you can understand where I am coming from and possibly guide me. <br /><br />A little bit about myself: I am from Cincinnati, OH. My parents are both immigrants. I am the first person on my mother&#39;s side of the family to attend and graduate from college. I recently just graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Engineering and a minor in Public Policy. I am interested in the intersection between public policy and technology, but I am also interested in technology&#39;s involvement in business operations (I also like writing, and I&#39;m okay at math, probably much like yourself). I helped start the undergraduate business program at my school and I was the treasurer for my engineering school&#39;s finance club. I have worked for two non-profit internships, one pertaining to technology and public policy research the State of Ohio. Currently I am working as a Research Associate for policy organization in Boston focused on making Massachusetts more competitive as far as business expansion and investment is concerned. I am charged with finding ways to help reduce the cost of energy in the Commonwealth. I am interested in eventually working for corporate America, but I would also be comfortable dabbling in policy work (defense contracting, DOE, MITRE, etc). My dream is to work for a consumer good company like P&amp;G, but I am up for anything. I guess I will find out as I start looking for jobs.<br /><br />My GPA as an undergrad was okay, but nothing stellar. Although I graduated, I am attending school for an extra year in order to become an accredited engineer and to attain my Bachelors of Engineering degree. Afterward I hope to work for a couple of years before I go onto graduate school. In between my 5th year and my time working, I hope to take the GMAT as well as the GRE. <br /><br />My parents want me to go straight to grad school after I finish my 5th year. I, however, am not sure if I want to do that. I want to work and figure out what I want to do from there. My parents are afraid that I won&#39;t return to school, but I think I will (haha).<br /><br />With all of that said I have some personal questions as well as questions pertaining to the LGO program at MIT. First, what makes the LGO program at MIT any different from the MIT SDM (systems design and management) program (other than the fact that one grants two degree and the other grants one)? What do you think LGO admissions people are looking for and SDM people are looking for? Also what distinguishes a LGO student from a regular MBA applicant (perhaps besides the fact that many LGO applicants are engineers since engineers also apply to MBA programs)? What is MIT looking for in an LGO applicant? What makes a strong LGO applicant (beside a high GPA)? <br /><br />Also as I move on in my 5th year engineering degree, what would you advise me to do in order to begin strengthening my future application to LGO as well as any joint program offering MBA plus a M.S.? In my opinion, your overall GMAT score is in alignment to the LGO average, as is your GPA. However, academic achievement is only one part of the equation to get into LGO; showcasing a passion for manufacturing and demonstrating leadership abilities are also crucial. I took the GMAT once; my math score was not great (67th percentile) but I believe my verbal (97th percentile) and AWA (5.5) scores are very competitive, especially for someone whose native tongue is not English.
